American Families Plan Takes Important Steps to Address the Historic Inequities Communities Face
For Immediate Release: April 28, 2021
Need for continued investments in our health care infrastructure remain
WASHINGTON — Today, President Biden announced the American Families Plan — the second part of a two-pronged approach to strengthen the nation’s infrastructure. The outline includes important investments in child care, education, paid leave, nutrition, and affordable health care coverage.
Statement from Jacqueline Ayers, vice president of government relations and public policy, Planned Parenthood Federation of America:
“Today’s proposal for the American Families Plan is an important step forward for people who face colossal inequities in this country due to centuries of systemic discrimination — including Black and Brown communities, LGBTQ+ people, and people with low incomes. We have so much more work ahead to truly ensure that people have full control of their bodies and their futures. To achieve that, we will need continued investments in our health care infrastructure — investments that provide access to essential, comprehensive, and quality health care for every family. Today’s plan builds on the tremendous progress the Biden-Harris administration has already made to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and reimagine a brighter future for all people. We look forward to working with them and with Congress to ensure that sexual and reproductive health care access for all remains integral to this continued work.”
Along with a coalition of more than 100 bold, progressive organizations, Planned Parenthood Federation of America and In Our Own Voice: National Black Women’s Reproductive Justice Agenda developed “First Priorities for the Blueprint for Sexual and Reproductive Health, Rights, and Justice,” a detailed list of executive and agency actions on global and domestic issues that Planned Parenthood expects the Biden-Harris administration to continue to swiftly address.
