Court Strikes Down Florida Law, Sixth Law in Four Days to Fall
For Immediate Release: July 1, 2016
Washington, D.C. -- Today, a Florida district court preliminarily blocked enforcement of a law that would have blocked access to birth control, cancer screenings, STI tests, and other preventive care at Planned Parenthood -- making it the sixth law targeting reproductive health care to fall in four days. This includes restrictions in Indiana,Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, and Wisconsin. The Florida decision came only hours after Planned Parenthood announced a campaign to repeal unjust and dangerous abortion restrictions in eight states around the country – with more to come. For more information on the Florida case, see this backgrounder.
Quote from Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood Federation of America:
“We will not stop fighting until every person has access to the health care they need and deserve, and until the law guarantees it. A growing number of young people are fighting for justice in this country. There is power in our movement. We have reached the tipping point, and we are not going back.”
