Washington, D.C. — Today, Alexis McGill Johnson, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, released the following statement after the nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to become an associate justice of the United States Supreme Court advanced out of the Senate Judiciary Committee to the full Senate.
During the two days of rigorous questioning during her nomination hearing, Judge Jackson fielded a wide range of questions from senators, including questions about individual rights to personal autonomy and liberty. Judge Jackson confirmed that she considers Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey binding precedent and settled law, which she noted have been reaffirmed by the Supreme Court and relied upon as precedent.
Statement from Alexis McGill Johnson, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Federation of America:
“This vote before the Senate is a historic one: Black women have waited over 230 years for representation on the Supreme Court. The full U.S. Senate will now consider Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, a nominee with outstanding experience, acumen, and expertise.
“Now that the Senate Judiciary Committee has thoroughly vetted her expansive legal background and exceptional credentials, the Senate must swiftly confirm Judge Jackson. This nomination is centuries in the making, and the work to rebuild our federal courts continues.”
