History Made as Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson is Confirmed to the Supreme Court

Washington, D.C. — Today, Alexis McGill Johnson, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, released the following statement after the Senate’s historic vote to confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson as associate justice to the United States Supreme Court, making her the first Black woman to ever serve on the Supreme Court.

“Perseverance. That’s what it took for Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to make history today. Today, we are joyous. As we celebrate Judge Jackson’s landmark confirmation to the Supreme Court, we recognize that today’s vote is centuries in the making, particularly for the Black women and girls, who all too often don’t see ourselves represented in the highest seats of government.
“This is also an important moment in the necessary work of rebuilding and restoring the courts to protect our freedoms. Judge Jackson will be an important voice in shaping the Supreme Court’s direction, and we look forward to seeing her brilliance for decades to come.”
