Planned Parenthood Accepts Nominations For 2008 Maggie Awards for Media Excellence
For Immediate Release: Jan. 30, 2014
Awards Recognize Reproductive Health and Rights Coverage
New York — Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA), the nation’s leading reproductive health care advocate and provider, is proud to announce it is now accepting nominations for 2008 PPFA Maggie Awards for Media Excellence. The awards recognize exceptional contributions by the media that enhance the public's understanding of reproductive rights and health care issues, including contraception, sex education, teen pregnancy, abortion, and international family planning.
"Every year Planned Parenthood honors those in the media who demonstrate courage and dedication by writing and producing stories about crucial issues that affect the millions of women, men, and teens we serve everyday,” said PPFA President Cecile Richards. “Accurate and informative media coverage of reproductive rights and health care issues is vital to public education.”
Named after Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger, the annual awards cover the following categories: advertising, broadcast media and video, magazine, music, new media, newspaper, and radio. Entries are judged by professionals from the communications field and experts in family planning and reproductive health. Judges consider creativity, quality, relevance and effectiveness, as well as cultural diversity.
Nominations for the 2008 PPFA Maggie Awards — for work appearing in 2007 — must be received by April 15, 2008, along with a completed nomination form. A nomination form for downloading and information about submitting it can be found on the PPFA website at www.plannedparenthood.org/newsroom/ppfa-maggie-awards-10047.htm.
Maggie Awards winners will be recognized at an awards ceremony this summer during the annual PPFA Public Affairs Conference in Washington, DC, in July 2008.
