For Immediate Release: July 20, 2023
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Senator Jeanne Shaheen’s (D-NH) amendment in the Fiscal Year 2024 State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs (SFOPs) appropriations bill to increase funding for international family planning and reproductive health care passed in the Senate Appropriations Committee with bipartisan support.
Statement from Alexis McGill Johnson, president and CEO, Planned Parenthood Federation of America:
“While anti-sexual and reproductive health care politicians continue to use the appropriations process to restrict access to health care, our champions in Congress are fighting back. We are thrilled that Senator Shaheen’s amendment to increase global funding for essential and basic health care passed in committee. Everyone deserves access to quality health care, no matter who they are or where they live. Planned Parenthood will continue to advocate for federal funding both here and abroad that addresses the urgent need for sexual and reproductive health care.”
