Planned Parenthood: “Thank you, President Obama.”
Washington D.C. - On President Barack Obama’s last full day as President of the United States, Planned Parenthood celebrates President Obama’s legacy of helping women and families.
Statement from Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood Federation of America:
“On his way to Washington to take the Oath of Office, then-President-Elect Obama reminded us that people who love this country can change it. From that moment on, he has not only led an historic advancement in women’s health and rights — he has shown the world that when women and girls are valued and treated as equals, we can be on the front lines of creating that change.
“Over the past eight years, Planned Parenthood has had the honor of fighting alongside President Obama and his extraordinary staff to expand women’s health access in the landmark Affordable Care Act, to make this country a fairer and healthier place, and to steadfastly hold the line against those who would turn back the clock on women’s equality.
“President Obama has been a shining example of what it means to put women at the center of public policy making. We’ve made incredible progress over the past eight years, from ensuring that 55 million women have access to no copay birth control, to taking on discrimination in the workplace, to appointing two brilliant women to the Supreme Court, to giving women the opportunity to excel in leadership roles within his administration. And there is no better testament to his commitment to lifting up strong women than our brilliant First Lady Michelle Obama and the two incredible daughters they raised together. The impact of this administration on women’s personal, professional and economic lives is unparalleled, and for that we will be forever grateful.
“On behalf of Planned Parenthood’s 2.5 million patients and our 9.5 million supporters, thank you, President Obama.”
