Planned Parenthood Celebrates Vote on Equal Rights Amendment in the U.S. House of Representatives
For Immediate Release: Feb. 13, 2020
Washington, DC — Today, the United States House of Representatives voted to eliminate the deadline for states to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. Alexis McGill Johnson, acting president & CEO of Planned Parenthood Action Fund, issued the following statement:
Statement from Alexis McGill Johnson, Acting President & CEO, Planned Parenthood Federation of America:
“Women are equal members of society, and it’s past time our federal government and the Constitution reflects this truth. That’s why today’s vote designed to advance the Equal Rights Amendment in the House of Representatives is so historic. We know an equal society cannot exist unless women have the right to make our own decisions, plan our own futures, and control our own bodies, and that includes abortion access. Reproductive rights and health care are deeply connected to civil rights and justice for all Americans. In this moment where the very foundation of equal rights for women and transgender, nonbinary, and LGBTQ people is at risk like never before, Planned Parenthood will continue to strongly support all laws and policies that ensure women are treated as equal members of society under the law.”
