Planned Parenthood Federation of America Mourns Passing of Larry Kramer, LGBTQ Activist
For Immediate Release: May 28, 2020
WASHINGTON — Planned Parenthood Federation of America released the following statement following the death of Larry Kramer, LGBTQ icon, author, and AIDS activist.
Statement from Alexis McGill Johnson, acting president, Planned Parenthood Federation of America:
“Relentless and unapologetic in a time of crisis and devastation, Larry Kramer was a bold leader who never stopped fighting for increased AIDS research and an end to discrimination against LGBTQ people. As a playwright, he brought humanity and heart to the AIDS crisis. As an activist, he was fearless in the face of pain and opposition, never backing down from a fight in order to save his community.
“Today especially, I’m remembering my sister cousin Kathy, who left us in 2007 from complications due to AIDS – her death brought me into this fight, and inspires me to keep going, and ensure that Planned Parenthood remains a safe and compassionate health care provider for all who seek care, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation. To Kathy and Larry, rest in power."
