Planned Parenthood Global Announces Awards to Leading Innovators that Advance Reproductive Rights in Latin America
For Immediate Release: Nov. 18, 2019
The IDEA Forum 2019 convened the most creative and innovative minds to chart new paths that will advance women’s health and rights in Latin America.
Three proposals were awarded with the IDEA Prizes — which consist of funds and technical support to advance reproductive rights.
Antigua, Guatemala — The city of Antigua in Guatemala served as the host for the second IDEA Forum, a space where technology, new media, advertising and social impact investment sectors meet to design new solutions that aim to overcome the greatest barriers on reproductive health and rights in the region. More than 40 speakers and 150 participants from across the continent got together to chart new entrepreneurial and investment paths that will help to solve challenges that hinder the development of Latin America.
During the event, three innovative proposals were awarded — the IDEA Prizes — which include funds and technical assistance:
-
LATFEM Lab: A digital space for innovation and training of journalists across Latin America to promote the creation of stories and news coverage about sexual and reproductive health and rights — from a feminist and human rights perspective.
-
CRUSH POINT: Game app that will provide teens and young people with information about reproductive rights and sexuality, through attractive competitions among communities of users. The product will be first launched in Nicaragua.
-
Rebeca Lane: The next album of this powerful Guatemalan artist will be based on the voices of rural women. To gather these voices, Lane is planning to create spaces and workshops in which she will meet with these women and learn from their experiences.
Statement from Dee Redwine, Director of the Latin American Program, Planned Parenthood Global:
“Bringing together some of the most creative and talented minds in the region has been refreshing. We leave Antigua absolutely energized by the cross-sector exchanges and collaborations held over the last few days. Advancing reproductive health and rights requires bold thinking and new approaches. I want to congratulate the IDEA Prize Winners for their vision and commitment to women’s health and rights and to build a more equal and just society.”
Planned Parenthood Global launched the IDEA Initiative in 2017, calling on the technology, communications, entrepreneurial, and social impact investment ecosystems across Latin America to create new approaches and alliances that allow for sustainable solutions to barriers to sexual and reproductive rights in Latin America.
