For Immediate Release: April 28, 2016
Planned Parenthood Global is proud to congratulate our colleague and friend Carmen Barroso on her recent win of the 2016 United Nations Population Award. Barroso, an accomplished social scientist and former executive director of the International Planned Parenthood Federation/Western Hemisphere Region (IPPF/WHR), has dedicated her life to addressing pressing questions around population, focusing on global sexual and reproductive health and rights.
“No one deserves the Population Award more than Carmen Barroso, an incredible academic, social scientist, and champion for the sexual and reproductive health and rights of women and young people around the world,” said Latanya Mapp Frett, Executive Director of Planned Parenthood Global. “For decades she has worked tirelessly to improve the lives of people in every corner of society by advocating for access to family planning and reproductive health, including as the head of IPPF/WHR with a focus on Latin America and the Caribbean. She is an experienced, proven leader and we are proud to celebrate her accomplishments today.”
