New York, NY — Today, Planned Parenthood announced the most ambitious effort in its history to engage Latinas across the country with its first-ever Spanish-language campaign. Invencibles, or invincibles, is the counterpart to Planned Parenthood’s Unstoppablecampaign. Invencible is an empowering declaration of Latina strength that articulates the raw energy fueling the historic mobilization of women’s rights activism since the 2016 election — making it clear that women of color are leaders in this movement to fight for the freedom to control their own lives.
Statement from Dawn Laguens, Executive Vice President, Planned Parenthood Federation of America:
For over 100 years, Planned Parenthood has been a provider of high quality, affordable, reproductive health care. We take pride in serving Latinas, who make up over a quarter of our patient base, and we are proud to see patients regardless of insurance or immigration status. For many years, we have been reaching our patient base in Spanish, at our health centers. And Promotoras, our community outreach education program, is led by Latinas for Latinas. Invencibles is our effort to empower our Latina patients and expand our reach in Latina and Spanish-speaking communities. We have seen Latinas organizing, mobilizing, and leading the movement, Invencibles is our way of joining this already powerful movement.
From the 2017 Women’s March — the largest mass mobilization in U.S. history – to the present, an unprecedented wave of women activists are leading and building the world we want. Millions of women are stepping up to fight attacks on the hard-won freedoms women have sought to secure for generations. They can be heard in the current battle in the Supreme Court. They have made themselves heard to protect the Affordable Care Act and access to Planned Parenthood. And, of course, the #MeToo and Times Up movements have shown the power of women’s voices. Now, historic numbers of women are running for state and local office.
Invencibles is rooted in the foundational role that sexual and reproductive health plays in achieving full equality. The campaign embodies the belief that women should have control of their bodies and lives, including when or whether to have children. It connects the dots to many issues — including equal pay, sexual assault, harassment and violence — that continually hold women back, and highlights the importance of sexual freedom and reproductive health care to women’s rights and gender equity.
Statement from Bridgette Gomez, Director of Latino Outreach and Engagement, Planned Parenthood Federation of America:
Invencibles is a rallying cry for Latinas to come together in this historic moment of unprecedented attacks on our health care, our dignity, and our rights, as well as the unforeseen resistance against us. As Latinas, we are a lot of things — an important voting block, the majority of immigrants in this country, the fastest growing demographic, the most uninsured. Yet, even with our challenges we are resilient and powerful. It is up to us to lift each other up, unleash our untapped power, and have our voices heard. Together we are invencibles.
