“One of the great promises of the new health care law is the potential for prescription birth control to be covered with no co-pays. Making birth control available with no co-pays will significantly increase access to birth control for millions more women and help reduce the high number of unintended pregnancies in this country.
“We know that reducing unintended pregnancies in this country leads to positive health outcomes for women and children. It leads to healthier births, a lower infant mortality rate, and better women’s health overall.
“Today, as major medical organizations, including the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and The American Academy of Pediatrics, shared testimony with the IOM panel, they reiterated the fact that covering birth control with no co-pays leads to positive health outcomes for women and children.
“Planned Parenthood supports covering birth control with no co-pays and has launched the Birth Control Matters campaign to highlight this important provision in the health care law and educate the public about the importance of access to birth control in preventing unintended pregnancies and improving women and children’s health outcomes.”
