Planned Parenthood Statement on BRIDGE Act
For Immediate Release: Dec. 13, 2016
New, York, NY — Today Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) introduced the BRIDGE Act, bipartisan legislation to provide legislative relief to nearly 800,000 DREAMers with DACA.
Statement from Bridgette Gomez, Director of Latinx Outreach and Engagement, Planned Parenthood Federation of America:
“While the BRIDGE Act is not the long-term solution that our country needs, it is crucial step in protecting the nearly 800,000 DREAMers with DACA living in the U.S. today. If passed, this bill would allow them to stay in this country and continue to contribute to the communities they are such an important part of.
“DREAMers, DACA recipients, and undocumented immigrants are a valued part of the Planned Parenthood community. They are our patients, our volunteers, our activists, and our staff. At Planned Parenthood we believe that the ability to stay together, in the same country, as a family, is an integral part of what it means to have a happy and complete life. That’s why we continue to support undocumented communities and continue to provide care to a community that already faces too many barriers to accessing affordable, high-quality health care.
“At Planned Parenthood we believe that all people and their families deserve the highest quality of care, no matter what — no matter who they are, where they live, where they are from, or what their immigration status is.”
