Planned Parenthood Statement on Tonight’s Trumpcare Vote
For Immediate Release: July 25, 2017
It’s Time for the to Senate Stop Trying to Take Away Health Care
Washington, DC — Tonight, the Senate is voting on yet another version of Trumpcare. No matter what version of Trumpcare the Senate votes on, it would leave millions of people without health insurance, charge women more for less coverage, and prevent millions of patients from coming to Planned Parenthood health centers for care.
Statement from Dawn Laguens, Executive Vice President, Planned Parenthood Federation of America:
Any way you play it, Trumpcare leaves millions without health care, threatens maternity coverage, and blocks women from accessing birth control and cancer screenings at Planned Parenthood. The American people have been loud and clear about two things: they do not want this bill, and they will not rest until this bill is defeated. It’s time for the Senate to listen to the people they represent and stop trying to take away the health care millions of families rely on.
Planned Parenthood grassroots organizing has been a driving force in opposing Trumpcare and efforts to “defund” Planned Parenthood. For months, an army of pink-clad Planned Parenthood patients, supporters, and advocates have taken thousands of actions from coast to coast including attending protest rallies, speaking out at congressional town halls, calling their members of Congress, delivering petitions to congressional offices, and hosting field hearings. In fact, Planned Parenthood supporters made 13,000 calls into Capitol Hill today alone.
Over the last several months, Planned Parenthood supporters have:
-
Made more than 190,000 phone calls to members of Congress
-
Organized more than 2,200 events across the country, including rallies, petition drops, phone banks, and marches
-
Delivered over 1 million petition signatures to members of Congress in opposition to “defunding” Planned Parenthood.
Tomorrow at 5pm, hundreds of Planned Parenthood patients and supporters from around the country will rally on Capitol Hill to demand Senators protect health care for millions of people in America. To RSVP email the Planned Parenthood media office, [email protected]; 212-261-4433.
