Planned Parenthood’s #IDEFY Campaign at Broccoli City Festival this Weekend
For Immediate Release: May 6, 2017
Saturday, May 6, Stop by Planned Parenthood’s #IDEFY 360 Balloon Booth
Washington, DC — This Saturday, Planned Parenthood's #IDEFY campaign will have an interactive 360 Balloon Booth at DC’s Broccoli City Festival. #IDEFY is Planned Parenthood’s campaign designed to amplify the voices of young people across the country who are fighting to defy hate and discrimination in all forms, by asking them to use social media to tell the world what they defy.
This year's Broccoli City Festival is coming at an especially critical time as one of the things young people defy is the repeal of the Affordable Care Act that would “defund” Planned Parenthood and is the worst bill for women’s health in generation. This would have a huge impact on young people as 70% of Planned Parenthood’s patient base are under 30. Young people are standing up to fight against this attack on their health care and the many attacks on communities of color and LGBTQ people happening across the country.
What: Planned Parenthood will be hosting a #IDEFY 360 photo booth where they will invite attendees to write down what they defy on to balloons and pop them in a symbolic act of defiance. Photos will be shared on social media using #IDEFY to share the messages of defiance and inspire more young people to fight back.
Who: Kersha Deibel, Director of Constituency Organizing will be available to do interviews about the #IDEFY campaign. Several of the musicians performing at Broccoli City Festival will participate in the campaign either from the stage, social media, or stopping by the booth to share what they defy.
Where: Planned Parenthood’s #IDEFY 360 Balloon Booth
When: Saturday, May 6 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm
RSVP: [email protected] if you are interested in an interview with a Planned Parenthood spokesperson at Broccoli City Festival or about the #IDEFY Campaign.

During the launch event, Planned Parenthood asked young people to tell us what they defy — intolerance, slut-shaming, abortion stigma, racism, xenophobia — and had artists paint those words on six walls that were then destroyed by a giant wrecking ball, in a symbolic act of defiance.
