For Immediate Release: May 31, 2018 (Updated: May 31, 2018, noon)
NEW YORK — Today Teen Vogue announced that Spot On, Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s free period and birth control tracker app, has won a Teen Vogue Acne Award for Best Tech (App). Spot On helps users track and predict their periods, understand their menstrual cycle, and manage their birth control -- while also providing guidance, tips, and fun facts from Planned Parenthood experts. The award recognizes that tracking our body patterns and habits can tell us a lot about our skin. Spot On has been downloaded nearly 1.5 million times, with users in 160 countries and in every state in the U.S.
Teen Vogue has long established its authority when it comes to skin and how to help acne-prone skin. With the Acne Awards, Teen Vogue is thrilled to provide its 9.2 million monthly unique visitors with a definitive list of the season’s must-haves. Selected by editors and a panel of experts, these awards recognize the year’s acne preventative essentials.
Spot On was designed to help every person understand their own unique cycle and body, so we’re thrilled that the app was recognized with this award. At Planned Parenthood, we understand that your period is a normal — if not always welcome — part of life. Spot On makes it easier for you to understand your cycle so that you can rule it, instead of it ruling you,” said Jenny Friedler, senior director of the Digital Product Lab at Planned Parenthood Federation of America. “As a leading expert in sexual and reproductive health, Planned Parenthood is continually looking for innovative approaches to get people the information and care they need to stay healthy and reach their life goals, whether that’s on their phones or in a health center. We’re here when you need us — no matter what.
When it comes to periods and birth control, Planned Parenthood has heard every question in the book. We know that when your mood or body changes, it can be hard to tell what’s part of your menstrual cycle, what’s a birth control side effect, and what’s just your body being your body. Spot On allows people all over the world to have personalized information and access to the experts at Planned Parenthood at their fingertips, wherever they are. Unlike other period trackers, Spot On is for any person who gets a period, and doesn’t make assumptions about gender or sexual orientation. You won't find every shade of pink or lots of flowers and butterflies — although you may find a dinosaur.
Spot On was featured as one of Apple’s "New Apps We Love" in the App Store. The app won a 2017 Fast Company Innovation by Design Award, and was selected as a Gold Honoree for Best Mobile App in the ninth annual Shorty Awards. You can download it for the iPhone or Android here.
