Planned Parenthood Statement on Latest Gallup/CNN/USA Today Poll on Judge Samuel Alito and Women's Reproductive Rights
Confirmation Would Place Women's Health and Safety in Grave Danger
WASHINGTON, DC — Today Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA), the leading advocate and provider of reproductive health care in the United States, issued the following statement from Karen Pearl, PPFA interim president, on the latest Gallup/CNN/USA Today Poll.
"The poll affirms that Americans overwhelmingly support a woman's right to make her own reproductive health care decisions, and makes clear that Americans view the nomination of Judge Alito to replace Sandra Day O'Connor with little enthusiasm.
"The stakes could not be higher for women's health and safety, and the Senate should reject the nomination of Judge Alito to the Supreme Court. On November 30, the Supreme Court will hear Ayotte v. Planned Parenthood and the justices are expected to rule on the legality of eliminating the requirement that abortion laws must protect women's health.
"Judge Alito is an ultraconservative outside the judicial mainstream. He has a long record of hostility toward reproductive rights, privacy rights, and civil rights. Planned Parenthood, the nation's leading advocate for reproductive health care, opposes the nomination of Judge Alito."
