Statement by Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, on Glenn Beck’s Outrageous Remarks Suggesting Only ''Hookers'' Go to Planned Parenthood
For Immediate Release: Jan. 30, 2014
[NOTE: Glenn Beck, on his radio show today, attacked women who go to Planned Parenthood by suggesting only “hookers” go to Planned Parenthood. Listen to audio HERE.]
“Glenn Beck has launched a hateful and ill-informed attack on women who rely on Planned Parenthood for breast exams, cancer screenings, family planning, HIV tests, STI testing and treatment, and more.
“Planned Parenthood condemns Glenn Beck’s ignorant and offensive comments. One in five women in America receives care from Planned Parenthood at some point in her lifetime. Beck’s comments are an insult to every one of them, and to all of the three million patients who visit Planned Parenthood health centers every year. He should apologize immediately.
“Having failed last week to eliminate breast exams, cancer screenings, and birth control that millions of American women count on, Glenn Beck, Representative Mike Pence, and other extremists have now moved from attacking Planned Parenthood to personally attacking women in this country.
“Glenn Beck should be ashamed, and his political allies should repudiate these abhorrent statements.”
BACKGROUND:
Over the last two months, more than 7,000 Planned Parenthood patients have submitted their compelling personal story online.
A patient story from each state is included in a booklet called Voices from Home: Stories of Planned Parenthood Patients.
