Statement by Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood Federation Of America, On The Supreme Court’s Rulings on Marriage Equality
“These are historic rulings for equality. Reproductive rights are deeply connected to civil rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. We have long stood with LGBT people – many of whom turn to Planned Parenthood for health care, information, and education – in the fight for full equality.
“This country is seeing extraordinary progress on marriage equality, rooted in principles that underlie the work Planned Parenthood does every day: that politicians should not get to decide what your family looks like, and that rights in this country should not depend on the state where you live. Today, we celebrate these rulings and commit to ensuring that all LGBT people are safe, supported, and respected.”
