Statement by Cecile Richards, President of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, on “Wanted” Posters Targeting Abortion Doctors
For Immediate Release: Jan. 30, 2014
“Planned Parenthood Federation of America strongly condemns the ‘Wanted’ posters that the anti-abortion group Operation Save America is circulating in the Charlotte, North Carolina, area, and it calls on all law enforcement authorities to scrutinize these dangerous signs and those who post them.
Read the CBS News story about the posters HERE:
“Americans should not forget that in the recent past, ‘Wanted’ posters targeted physicians who provided abortions, and then those physicians were assassinated.
“Now, anti-choice extremists have resurrected the same tactic to frighten and intimidate doctors who help women on a daily basis. There is simply no place in our society for such outrageous and dangerous conduct.
“Doctors who perform abortions and their patients are already threatened and harassed on a daily basis and are forced to take extraordinary security precautions. We cannot forget that less than two years ago, Dr. George Tiller was shot and killed in his church by an anti-abortion extremist, and three other physicians have been assassinated since 1993.
“Planned Parenthood calls on Operation Save America to stop printing and circulating the ‘Wanted’ posters and calls on all law enforcement authorities to investigate these dangerous activities seriously.”
