This May Day, Planned Parenthood Stands in Solidarity with Workers, Immigrants, Refugees
For Immediate Release: May 1, 2018 (Updated: May 1, 2018, 4:47 p.m.)
Washington, DC — This May Day, Planned Parenthood is proud to stand in solidarity with our partners to celebrate the power, resilience, and strength of working families and immigrant and refugee communities and fight for their rights.
Planned Parenthood affiliates all across the country are partnering with local organizations, joining marches, rallies, and protests to resist increased and unjust immigration enforcement efforts by the Trump-Pence administration. Such efforts include the continuous termination of Temporary Protected Status, the unlawful termination of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), and the use of workplace raids to systematically pull immigrants out of the workforce with the intent of detention and deportation. These policies create fear among immigrant and refugee communities, threaten their ability to work, live, and remain in this country, and could rip them apart from their families without warning.
Statement from Dawn Laguens, Executive Vice President of Planned Parenthood Federation of America:
At Planned Parenthood, we believe that everyone has the right to work, live, and thrive without fear, and stay together as a family. The Trump-Pence administration is separating families, terrorizing hard-working people who came to this country to build better lives, and driving more and more people into the shadows and away from life-saving health care.
When we talk about the harm that this administration has done to working families, refugees, or immigrants, we’re talking about our patients and our communities. We are proud to provide health care, no matter what: no matter your income, no matter your zip code, and no matter your immigration or refugee status. That is why we are joining our partners today, and every day, to protect the lives, health, and safety of workers, refugees, immigrants, and all people in this country.
