Can Chlamydia, if left untreated for 3 or more years, turn into Syphilis?
No. Chlamydia won’t turn into syphilis if it’s left untreated for a long period of time. But it can cause PID — pelvic inflammatory disease — in women. PID is a serious infection that harms the reproductive organs. And untreated chlamydia in men can cause a condition called epididymitis. Both PID and epididymitis can cause infertility (the inability to become pregnant or to cause a pregnancy).
To prevent these kinds of serious complications, it’s really important to get tested regularly for chlamydia. Chlamydia often has no symptoms, which is why testing is so important. Chlamydia is easy to treat with antibiotics, and testing for it is simple. Read more about chlamydia here.
