Can I get tested for herpes without my parents knowing?
In general, parental permission is not needed for STD testing. However, there may be certain locations where, for one reason or another, a health care provider will require parental permission. Check with your provider about her or his policy.
Usually, a herpes diagnosis is made during an outbreak, when there are symptoms — blistery sores in the genital area. Health care providers can confirm herpes infection by testing fluids taken from the sores.
