Can my 18 year old brother be conciderd my legal permision for an abortion, imm only 16?
In general, if your state requires parent involvement to get an abortion, a sibling (brother or sister) can’t legally take their place. However, some states do allow sibling permission permission if they’re 25 or older. But many states don’t require teens to get permission from anyone at all to get an abortion. Look for your state on this page to find out what the rules are where you live.
If the law says you need to have your parents involved, in most cases you will also have the option to speak with a local judge instead. That said, it’s always a good idea to involve your parents in big decisions and your health, so think about talking with them about being pregnant if you can. The staff at your nearest Planned Parenthood health center can also sit with you and help you figure out what your next steps are.
