I am almost positive I have genital warts. How can I get rid of them? And how much is the medicine for it?
Good news. If you do have genital warts, there are a couple different ways to treat them. A lot of the time, our bodies fight off the virus that causes genital warts, and the warts go away on their own. So some people choose to just wait for the warts to go away on their own. But since warts can be spread through skin-to-skin contact, and since you might find them uncomfortable or dislike the way they look, you may choose to get treatment.
Some genital warts can be frozen or burned off by a health care provider. Some can be removed with surgery or lasers. There are also topical medicines that can be applied directly to certain kinds of warts. Some treatments can be used at home, and others need to be applied by your health care provider. The kind of treatment that you should get depends on what kind of warts you have, and the only person who can tell you that is your health care provider.
The cost of treating your genital warts depends a lot on what kind of treatment you get. You can’t get treatment for genital warts until you get them diagnosed by a health care provider. Diagnosis and treatment may be covered by insurance, and some health centers (including your local Planned Parenthood health center) may be able to charge on a sliding-scale basis. Call your health care provider beforehand to ask about costs, payment, and insurance coverage.
