i took my friends birth control (once in january, & another in february) shes on the monthly pills. But now, i cant get any more pills from her. & me & my boyfriend have been having unprotected sex alot lately. If i dont take another pill in march, will i become pregnant?
In order for birth control pills to work, you need to take them every single day. Taking one birth control pill once a month or only when you have sex won’t prevent pregnancy.
It’s not a good idea to share birth control pills, for a couple serious reasons. First of all, taking a birth control pill from your friend’s pack meant that she was short a pill, which means she didn’t take her pills correctly, putting her at greater risk of pregnancy. Second, it’s really important that you only take birth control — or any prescription medication — that’s been prescribed to you by a nurse or doctor of your own. While the pill is safe for most people, some people can’t or shouldn’t use certain types of birth control if they have certain health conditions.
If you want to use the pill, talk to a health care provider who can help you decide if the pill is right for you and give you a prescription. When you have your own prescription, you’ll always have enough pills to take them correctly. In the meantime, if you and your boyfriend are having unprotected sex and you don’t want to get pregnant, you need to use another method of birth control, like condoms. Condoms are available over the counter, and they’re the only birth control method that can prevent against pregnancy and the spread of STDs.
