Someone asked us: If a guy uses a condom and pulls out before he comes inside you, could I still get pregnant?
It’s very unlikely. Condoms are about 87% effective — that means about 13 out of 100 people who use condoms as their only birth control method will get pregnant each year. Condoms also protect both you and your partner from sexually transmitted infections.
Using condoms combined with your partner pulling out (also known as the pull out method), adds another layer of protection against pregnancy. Withdrawal is much less effective than condoms at preventing pregnancy, and it will not protect either of you from sexually transmitted infections. However, by using condoms and the pull out method together, you and your partner have higher chances of both preventing pregnancy and protecting yourselves from sexually transmitted infections.
For even more pregnancy prevention power, you can use another form of birth control with your condoms, such as the birth control pill or spermicide.
