So. . .I'm 15 years old. I'm in 10th grade I go to a public High School. I Have always been that girl who has the boyfriend everyone wants and I cheered and now I play Rugby. I have been dating this guy for almost a year and a half. And I think I'm lesbian. I have strong feelings for this guy, but being with a girl for me tops being with a guy. How do I tell him this? How would I tell my mom? Please I need Advice.
Telling people you're gay (coming out) is a very personal decision. While it can strengthen and deepen relationships and improve self-esteem, it can be a very scary thing. In some situations, it can even be risky. Only you can decide if and when to come out, to whom, and how to do it.
The best way to decide whether to talk with your boyfriend and mom is to ask yourself these questions:
- Are you sure about your sexual orientation?
- Do you really want to declare it at this point in your life?
- Are you comfortable with your sexuality?
- What is your general relationship with your mom?
- What are your mom’s views about sexual orientation? What are your boyfriend’s views?
- Would you be safe if everyone at school knew that you were attracted to women?
- Are you financially dependent on your mom?
- Do you have available resources to care for yourself if your mom decides not to because of your sexual identity?
Exploring these questions may help you be clear about your sexuality in your own mind before coming out to your boyfriend and mom.
