It’s very possible to have a baby while living with HIV. With treatment, less than two out of 100 babies born to mothers living with HIV will be infected. Without treatment, about 25 out of 100 babies will be infected. While it’s true that babies can be infected with HIV during pregnancy, birth, or breastfeeding — early testing and antiretroviral medications can greatly lower your chances of passing HIV to your baby.
A nurse or doctor, like the staff at your local Planned Parenthood, can give you support and medicines to help you stay healthy, and help you avoid passing HIV to your baby or anyone you have sex with. For more information and resources visit hivcare.org.
