What should you do if you have a UTI?
UTIs — urinary tract infections — are really unpleasant, fairly common, and completely curable. But if you think you have a UTI, you need to see a health care provider about it as soon as possible. If left untreated, a UTI can cause a kidney infection, which can be way more serious. Your health care provider will test a sample of your urine to see if you have a UTI, and if you do, she or he will prescribe antibiotics. You can also take an over-the-counter pain reliever like Uristat to deal with the discomfort of a UTI, but those drugs will only help relieve painful symptoms and won’t help cure the infection. You can get a test or treatment for a UTI at your local Planned Parenthood health center, many other clinics, and private health care providers.
