Someone asked us: what is the reason that using baby oil with a condom will cause damage to the condom
Using baby oil with a condom will damage the latex of the condom, causing it to break.
It’s important to use only water-based lubricants, such as K-Y jelly or Astroglide, with latex or polyisoprene condoms. Oil-based lubricants like petroleum jelly, cold cream, butter, or mineral and vegetable oils damage latex and polyisoprene.
Here is a list of lubricants that are safe to use with all condoms:
- Aqua Lube®
- Astroglide®
- ForPlay®
- H-R® lubricating jelly
- K-Y® lubricating jelly
- PrePair®
- Wet® — silicone and water-based only
- Any silicone-based body safe lubricants
- Any glycerin-based body safe lubricants
And here is a list of lubricants that should NOT be used with latex or polyisoprene condoms:
- Aldara Cream
- baby oil
- Bag Balm
- butter
- cold cream
- head and body lotions
- body oils
- massage oils
- coconut oil
- mineral oil
- petroleum jelly
- rubbing alcohol
- shortening
- suntan oil and lotions
- certain vaginal yeast infection medicine
- vegetable or cooking oils
