FL Requirements
There have been recent changes to Florida law that add obstacles to patients accessing care. These are not Planned Parenthood’s decisions, but changes in the law that Planned Parenthood is required to comply with. We will help you through the process to get your care. 6-Week Abortion Ban: The 6-week abortion ban is now in effect. Patients past 6 weeks of pregnancy can no longer receive an abortion in Florida unless they meet a statutory exception. The law provides exceptions for fatal fetal diagnosis, to save the life of the mother, or for victims of rape, incest or human trafficking (with proper documentation). Our Patient Navigators are helping patients who are more than 6 weeks pregnant find care out of state. 24-Hour Mandatory Delay: A state law recently went into effect that requires a 24-hour mandatory waiting period for people seeking abortion care. That means abortion patients must appear in-person for two appointments at least 24 hours apart in order to comply with Florida law. There are limited exceptions, including exceptions for victims of rape, incest, domestic violence or human trafficking only if the patient provides documentation (police report, court order, or medical report). If a patient has had a miscarriage and there is no fetal heartbeat, that patient does not have to wait 24 hours or appear for two appointments. Teens Seeking Abortion Care: Florida state law requires most young people under 18 to involve a parent or legal guardian in their decision. Visit https://www.plannedparenthood.org/planned-parenthood-southwest-central-florida/abortion/teens-seeking-abortion-services for more information about parental consent and how to get a judicial bypass if you cannot safely get permission from your parents to have an abortion.
If you are under the age of 18 and need help talking with your parents/caregivers or seeking judicial bypass we can help.
