The abortion pill (also known as a medication abortion) is offered up to 12 weeks and 0 days after the first day of your last menstrual period. It is a safe and effective way of ending an early pregnancy.

Abortion pill (medication abortion) services are available by appointment only.

Medication abortion (the abortion pill) involves taking two medications (mifepristone and misoprostol) up to 48 hours apart; both medications must be taken while you are in the state of Michigan.

Your medication abortion appointment will be like any other appointment, except that, when it is time, you may connect with a provider by a secure video conference for a face-to-face visit where they will prescribe the appropriate medications, if it is appropriate to do so.

What To Expect During Your Appointment

Plan to be at the health center for 5 hour(s) for your entire visit.

Post-Appointment Information

We'll follow up with you, if you’d like, within 1 week(s) to make sure your abortion is complete and that you are well.

In the unlikely event that you are still pregnant, you may need another dose of medicine or to have an in-clinic abortion to end the pregnancy.

We’ll also give you after-care instructions and a phone number you can call with any questions or concerns.

Availability

In-clinic abortion (also known as surgical abortion) is offered up to 15 weeks and 6 days after the first day of your last menstrual period.

If your last period started more than 15 weeks and 6 days ago, we can help connect you to other abortion options in your area.

In-clinic abortions are available by appointment only.

    Gestational Periods

  • Gestation period up to 13 weeks 6 days
  • Gestation period 14 weeks to 15 weeks 6 days

Preparing For Your Appointment

If you take any medicines, please continue to take them normally before your appointment or bring them with you on the day of your appointment.

If you have asthma, bring an inhaler if you have one.

If you desire medication to help make your in-clinic abortion more comfortable, you must have a responsible companion with you to help you get home safely.

There may be additional charges for lab and blood work.

Payment is expected at time of service unless other arrangements have been made.

What To Expect During Your Appointment

Plan to be at the health center for 6 hour(s) for your entire visit for an in-clinic abortion.

When you choose an abortion service at our health center, you may also receive the following: pregnancy test pregnancy dating (ultrasound)

At times there may be protesters outside of the health center. We suggest you avoid interaction with them.

Please do not bring children to the health center.

Appointments

You can privately and easily book your appointment online for select services 24/7. For the full set of services, you can call 616-459-3101 to book your appointment. Health center staff can also answer any questions you may have.

While masking is not required at PPMI health centers, masks are recommended for staff and patients during the provision of direct patient care. Patients and staff who prefer to mask may do so in all settings and at any time. Patients and visitors may be asked to wear a mask by a member of the care team based on COVID-19 symptoms or positive COVID-19 screening. If you have you tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 10 days or currently have symptoms concerning for COVID-19 infection, please contact us to reschedule your appointment.

Get select services from home via a virtual telehealth visit or the PP DirectSM App.

Scheduled appointments are required. We do not accept walk-ins. However you may stop in without an appointment to pick up prescription refills or Plan B emergency contraception.
