PHOENIX — Today, Planned Parenthood Arizona (PPAZ) and Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona (PPAA) proudly announced that Angela Florez, a tireless advocate and native Arizonan, will be the organizations’ joint President and CEO, effective February 14, 2024.
With 10 years of advocacy and health care experience and service on PPAZ’s Board of Directors for nearly seven years, Florez is a seasoned leader who has dedicated her career to helping others, fighting for social justice, and creating equitable and healthy communities.
“We are delighted to welcome Angela Florez, a spirited advocate for sexual and reproductive health care, as the new President and CEO of PPAZ,” said Sheena Chiang and Astrid Henao, Co-Chairs of Planned Parenthood Arizona’s Board of Directors. “Through a thoughtful and collaborative process, the board selected Angela to lead us into the next phase of growth for PPAZ. She brings a wealth of knowledge and dedication to the organization, having devoted her career to nonprofit work and state advocacy. Her commitment to advancing sexual and reproductive health care aligns seamlessly with our mission, and we look forward to the positive impact she will undoubtedly make as we continue to fight for access to essential health care for all of Arizona.”
A passionate leader and reproductive freedom champion, Florez has worked hard to strengthen Arizona’s communities, safeguard the rights of women, and build a better future for the next generation of Arizonans. She began her career advocating for and mentoring young women at Girl Scouts - Arizona Cactus-Pine Council and has since contributed to the missions of the Red Cross, Arizona Humane Society, Phoenix Public Library, and Valle de Sol Community Health Center. Most recently, she served as Chief of Staff at the Women's Foundation for the State of Arizona in their efforts to create social, political, and economic change to advance equity for women and girls in the state.
“I’m humbled to become Planned Parenthood Arizona and Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona’s next President and CEO, and look forward to continuing PPAZ’s incredible work to expand sexual and reproductive care across Arizona and ensure people of every race and ethnic background, gender identity, and socioeconomic status can access the care they need,” said incoming President and CEO Angela Florez. “As someone born and raised in Arizona, I am grateful for the community’s support and trust as we move forward, together, to ensure reproductive health care access and education is available through the state. It’s an honor to join our dedicated team at this critical moment to advocate for the bodily autonomy and health of Arizonans.”
This announcement comes at a pivotal time for reproductive health care in Arizona. As the Arizona Supreme Court is poised to decide the constitutionality of a proposed archaic, near-total ban on abortion in Planned Parenthood Arizona v. Mayes, and advocates ramp up efforts to put abortion on the ballot in November, Angela Florez joins PPAZ with renewed drive and commitment to secure reproductive freedom in the state and provide non-judgemental and accessible sexual and reproductive health care for all who need it.
