Rochester, NY – Planned Parenthood of Central and Western New York is pleased to announce it has received a $13,500 grant from ESL and Greater Rochester After School Alliance. These funds will support In Control’s Sow the Seeds Summer Program.
Sow the Seeds Summer Program is a youth program designed to connect youth to area farmer’s markets, cooking, gardening, and healthy living, to offset the effects of food deserts in the city. Program participants are Rochester residents between the ages of 14 and 17. In Control is grateful to Vineyard Farm for acting as host and for providing instruction to participants.
In Control empowers youth to make educated choices about sex and personal health, while achieving educational and career goals.
"Youth are no different than adults in that they can be just as picky about what they do and don't like food wise,” says Chris Spicer, Vice President of Programs at Planned Parenthood of Central and Western New York. “This award will help our youth at In Control find their own joys in healthy eating so instead of being forced, healthy foods are sought."
