Gender Affirming Hormone Care is set to go live in Indiana and Kentucky Planned Parenthood health centers on September 30, 2021!
“All of our support staff and clinicians are now wrapping up their webinar-based trainings,” said Laura Miller, Area Services Director.
Miller added that Indiana and Kentucky will soon have a patient care navigator to support the Gender Affirming Hormone Care (GAHC) rollout in those states. “This person will help patients navigate medical care, related legal needs, and insurance coverage,” Miller explained.
Finn Kovi, the current Patient Care Navigator for Alaska, Hawai'i, Idaho, and Washington, noted, “When we last talked, we had 3,300 unique gender affirming care patients [in the state where I work]… now, just a few months later, we have 4,700!”
Kovi said they have seen a large and steady increase in the number of patients coming to Planned Parenthood for gender affirming care.
They said that the program has been going well since its launch in 2018. As for the expansion to Indiana and Kentucky, “We haven’t had any big obstacles internally in the process. Everyone working on this is doing so in addition to their regular workload, so I imagine some of us are overwhelmed.”
Kovi added, “Our biggest success has been the overhaul of our e-Learning module […]changing our in-person training to a webinar.”
Kovi emphasized that all of the gender affirming care services offered to patients in western states will also be available to patients at Indiana and Kentucky Planned Parenthood health centers.
“Our clinical services teams can’t wait to get started with the launch of GAHC,” said Miller. “All of us are very excited!”
