Planned Parenthood Great Northwest Hawai‘i, Alaska, Indiana, Kentucky Designated as "LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality Leader”
For Immediate Release: June 26, 2024
INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Planned Parenthood Great Northwest Hawai‘i, Alaska, Indiana, Kentucky (PPGNHAIK) is proud to announce that the Human Rights Campaign Foundation has awarded PPGNHAIK a score of 100 for the 2024 Healthcare Equality Index, designating the organization as a “Leader in LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality.”
The Healthcare Equality Index (HEI) is a national LGBTQ+ benchmarking tool used to evaluate health care facilities' policies and practices regarding the equity and inclusion of LGBTQ+ patients, visitors, and employees. The Human Rights Campaign Foundation developed the HEI to give health care facilities the information and resources needed to ensure that LGBTQ+ people can access patient-centered care and to applaud facilities that have shown their commitment to LGBTQ+ patient-centered care.
Rebecca Gibron, CEO of PPGNHAIK:
"We are thrilled to receive this designation as a leader in the LGBTQ+ health care. This underscores our dedication to ensuring that all patients, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, receive the care and support they need and deserve. As access to essential services becomes increasingly limited, particularly for LGBTQ+ individuals, we’re proud to remain unwavering in our commitment to being a beacon of inclusive, compassionate care."
PPGNHAIK leads in LGBTQ+ health care with:
- QueerVisory: a youth advisory group funded by grants, offering crucial insights into LGBTQ+ youth sexual health needs and health center training.
- Gender Affirming Hormone Care Patient Navigation: A specialized program externally promoted, providing navigation services to trans and nonbinary patients (only 27% of HEI participants offer this service).
- Gender Affirming Hormone Care: Accessible at every PPGNHAIK health center for adults.
- Inclusive staff insurance benefits: Covering transition-related care and family formation benefits.
- Strong community engagement and advocacy efforts.
According to the Human Rights Campaign, only thirty-six percent of 1,065 participants earned a “2024 LGBTQ+ Health Care Equality Leader” designation. PPGNHAIK is the only Planned Parenthood affiliate to earn this designation and is the only health care provider to earn leader status in Alaska, Idaho, Indiana, and Kentucky. Patients seeking LGBTQ+ inclusive care can find PPGNHAIK on the HEI’s searchable database.
Celebrating Pride isn’t something we do only in June — it’s a year-round commitment to nonjudgmental and compassionate care at all our Planned Parenthood health centers. Patients should call 1-800-230-7526 for more information or visit our Planned Parenthood health centers.
