Thank you to our many dedicated volunteers, interns, and supporters who made it possible for Missouri to become the 38th state to expand Medicaid! Medicaid expansion makes sense for Missouri, and this historic victory would not have been possible without the Planned Parenthood volunteers who gathered petition signatures, phone banked, and shared information about the benefits of Medicaid expansion with friends and family. Thanks to you, 230,000 more Missourians will soon have access to the health care coverage they need and deserve! Now that’s an achievement worth celebrating.
Kinloch Community Cleanup
Planned Parenthood volunteers and staff rolled up their sleeves and pitched in to help clean up Kinloch! Volunteers picked up trash, hauled away dumped furniture, and cleared out other debris. Kinloch is the oldest African American community to be incorporated in the state of Missouri. The city was home to a vibrant and flourishing Black community for much of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Cleaning up and caring for this historic area is the first step to revealing its true beauty once again.
Intern of the Month: Hailee
This month, we are highlighting one of our outstanding Planned Parenthood interns. August’s Intern of the Month is Hailee! See our Q & A below to learn more about Hailee and her experience with Planned Parenthood!
Q: Why is it important for you to intern with Planned Parenthood?
A: I’ve always been a supporter of Planned Parenthood, but unfortunately not been as comfortable vocalizing it. Having the opportunity to intern here has really allowed me to grow as a person. I’m now very open about the sexual health and reproductive justice related work that I do because the organization has made me feel empowered. I don’t feel the need to hide parts of myself anymore. I believe in what Planned Parenthood does and stands for, and I will not stay silent about it.
Q: Do you have a favorite experience so far with Planned Parenthood?
A: On my first day as an intern we had a safer sex kit assembly party, and honestly, I had no idea what to expect. It ended up being such an enlightening experience because we had a huge turnout – more than ever before! It was good for me to see such a diverse group of people supporting sexual health in the region. It really set the tone for my time here and continues to motivate me to do this work.
Q: What else would you like to share about what being a Planned Parenthood supporter means to you?
A: I just feel very grateful that I’ve been able to have an internship experience with Planned Parenthood because it’s a brand. When I tell people that I intern here they know I stand for justice, equity and inclusion. They know that they can trust me, because Planned Parenthood supports voice and choice in all aspects of what they do.
Virtual Volunteer Training: Become a Patient Greeter
Want to make a difference in the patient experience at Planned Parenthood? Become a volunteer patient greeter! As the first friendly face visitors see when they arrive at our health centers, patient greeters are essential for creating a safe environment for our patients, staff, and visitors. This virtual training is for supporters interested in volunteering for a weekday shift outside Reproductive Health Services in the Central West End or in Fairview Heights, Illinois.
Further instructions and a link to the virtual training will be emailed following registration. RSVP for the training that works best for you!
