Safer Sex Kit Restaurant and Bar Partnership
We hope all our supporters had a safe, happy, and healthy Valentine’s Day! To celebrate our love for our community, Planned Parenthood partnered with several local St. Louis restaurants and bars to provide baskets of free safer sex kits to their patrons. Everyone deserves access to protection to keep themselves safe and healthy.
With STI rates increasing, it’s important to have discussions about STIs and protection with your partner(s). We want to thank the nearly 50 volunteers who attended our safer sex kit assembly party and made more than 10,000 kits in just a few hours - you all make our work possible! And thank you to our local businesses that strengthen our community and remain committed to improving the health of St. Louisans!
Welcome New Patient Greeters
Planned Parenthood is thrilled to welcome 11 new patient greeter volunteers to our Central West End and new Fairview Heights health centers! Patient greeters are essential to help welcome patients, staff, and visitors to our health center and ensure they feel safe. We are looking for additional patient greeters at our Fairview Heights health center. Shifts are available Monday through Friday. Email us at [email protected] to get involved if you're interested!
Still on the fence about volunteering and what it means to be a patient greeter? Tim discusses his rewarding volunteer experience in this video!
Volunteer of the Month: Jennifer Lunceford
Each month we highlight one outstanding Planned Parenthood volunteer. March’s Volunteer of the Month is Jennifer Lunceford. See our Q & A below to learn more about Jennifer and her experience with volunteering!
Why is it important for you to volunteer at Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region?
Planned Parenthood provides so many community resources that people would normally not have. This is especially relevant in 2020 when few employers offer full-time positions and health care benefits. Volunteering with Planned Parenthood ensures people receive quality healthcare today and that important policies are being implemented to ensure people will have access to quality health care in the future as well.
Do you have a favorite volunteer experience with Planned Parenthood?
I enjoyed gathering signatures for Medicaid Expansion at the Ethical Society. I thought I would have to explain more about the initiative before people signed, so I was pleasantly surprised when numerous people walked right up and grabbed the pens to show their support. It proved there is momentum behind Medicaid Expansion in Missouri and that my efforts matter.
What else would you like to share about volunteering with Planned Parenthood?
Planned Parenthood is just a fun place to volunteer. I have fond memories of Planned Parenthood from as far back as high school when I volunteered one Saturday with my friends who were in TASH. It is a place that empowers and strengthens communities and makes you feel good long after you've left.
