Welcome to the May 2020 Volunteer Newsletter from the Community Engagement Team at Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region! Every month we share updates, resources and upcoming volunteer opportunities.
Thank You Health Center Staff!
Our volunteers wrote letters thanking the hardworking health center staff of Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri. We are appreciative of all the dedicated healthcare workers keeping us safe and healthy!
While our health centers are currently open, Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri is now offering virtual appointments. PPSLRSWMO continues to put patient and staff safety first by limiting the need for in-person visits. You can schedule your telehealth appointment now and learn more about your telehealth options!
PPSLRSWMO has also launched the Planned Parenthood Direct app! PP Direct lets you use your phone to get birth control and UTI treatment for a flat fee that's less than most copays, and works even if you are uninsured. Check it out today!
How are we adapting to COVID-19? You can find full details on our coronavirus response and what it means for patients.

Volunteer of the Month: Sarah Baker
Each month we highlight one outstanding Planned Parenthood volunteer. May’s Volunteer of the Month is Sarah Baker. See our Q & A below to learn more about Sarah and her experience with volunteering!
Q: Why is it important for you to volunteer at Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region?
A: It is important to me to volunteer at Planned Parenthood because I am passionate about public health. Many students do not have access to accurate information about sex education, and I have become a resource for my peers. Volunteering at Planned Parenthood has given me the tools to use my voice and fight to destigmatize conversations about pleasure, consent, birth control, and healthy relationships.
Q: Do you have a favorite volunteer experience with Planned Parenthood?
A: One of my favorite experiences volunteering with Planned Parenthood was going to Jefferson City. I was able to speak directly to my representatives and advocate for issues that are important to me. It is nerve-racking to speak to people in positions of power, but I have a right to be heard.
Q: What else would you like to share about volunteering with Planned Parenthood?
A: Volunteering with Planned Parenthood has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my high school career. I would strongly encourage other teenagers who feel powerless to get involved. There is a need, and you can make a change.

Give STL Day
Now more than ever, we are all in this together. That's why we are proud to join the St. Louis community for Give STL Day on Thursday, May 7! This incredible day brings together an entire community to support and celebrate non-profits serving the St. Louis community.
This year, both Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri AND Reproductive Health Services of Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region are participating.
Please consider supporting Planned Parenthood or RHS during early giving, or starting a peer-to-peer campaign. With your support, patients will continue to access health care, no matter what.
Mrs. America Virtual Watch Party
Social distancing is a challenge for many of us, and it's important to still stay connected! Let's come together — remotely — to watch and discuss Mrs. America, the story of the movement to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), and the opposition led by a conservative woman named Phyllis Schlafly.
Sign up to join Planned Parenthood for a virtual watch party of episode 2 on Tuesday, May 5, at 6:30 PM. All you need is a computer or smartphone! Register and we will email instructions on downloading Kast (a co-watching platform) with a link to the party prior to the event!
