Made for a Woman, Strong Enough for a Man
For Immediate Release: June 2, 2009
Celebrate National Men’s Health Week with Planned Parenthood
For any hurt, a man’s health care advice might be to “rub a little dirt on it” or “walk it off.” Unfortunately these tough guy attitudes don’t work for every ailment.
National Men’s Health Week starts Monday, June 15 and commences with Father’s Day on Sunday, June 21 and gives health providers the opportunity to encourage the awareness of preventable health problems, and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men.
Not just for the females, Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region offers a slew of sexual health services for men: sexually transmitted disease testing and treatment, HIV testing and counseling, prostate and testicular cancer screenings, and even vasectomies.
During National Men’s Health Week, all six Planned Parenthood health centers in the St. Louis area will be offering $10 off STD screenings.
Planned Parenthood offers urine and blood tests rather than the traditional swab test.
In light of recent statistics from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control that put St. Louis as #1 in Chlamydia and gonorrhea, and #5 for syphilis and HIV, these are vital tests for all sexually active people. The old remedy of “walking it off” won’t work.
Gentlemen, the doctor is in. It’s as easy as one, two, pee.
Men are encouraged to stop by a Planned Parenthood health center for any of their sexual health needs. For more information, call 1-800-230-PLAN or visit plannedparenthood.org/stlouis.
