Planned Parenthood expands service in Joplin area to support center closing
For Immediate Release: April 30, 2018
JOPLIN, Mo. – Joplin-area residents looking for high-quality, affordable reproductive and sexual health care can visit Planned Parenthood at 710 Illinois Avenue! The nonprofit health care provider has hired new staff, expanded hours and has raised private funds to ensure services are still accessible for those who formerly received care from Economic Security Corp.
In early March, Economic Security announced it would cease operating Women’s Health and Family Planning after 43 years. Planned Parenthood, which has also had a long presence in the Joplin community, made the commitment to expand service hours to ensure area patients still have a place to receive affordable reproductive, sexual and preventive health care.
“It is so important for people in Joplin and surrounding areas, and all around our state, to have access to high-quality, affordable health care,” said Mary Kogut, President and CEO of PPSLRSWMO. “We want the community to know that we’re here to help, and that Planned Parenthood will do everything we can to care for anyone who needs it, regardless of the ability to pay.”
Planned Parenthood has dedicated special funding to assist those new patients who need financial assistance to obtain birth control, pap smears, STD testing and treatment, and other preventive services.
Beginning May 1, Planned Parenthood in Joplin will be open the following hours:
- Tuesdays: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
- Wednesdays: 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.
- Thursdays: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
- Fridays: 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
- Saturdays: 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. (2nd and 4th Saturday of the month)
Patients wishing to make an appointment may call 417-781-3660, or visit www.plannedparenthood.org/swmo.
