Emergency Contraception
Emergency contraception, also known as the morning-after pill, EC, or Plan B, is available at all Planned Parenthood Great Rivers health centers.
EC is available at all health centers on a walk-in basis.
EC can stop a pregnancy before it starts. That means it's not the abortion pill. It works up to five days, or 120 hours, after unprotected sex. The sooner you take it, the higher your chances are to prevent pregnancy.

There Are Three Types of Emergency Contraception
Ella
The newest form of emergency contraception in the U.S. is a one-pill formula available by prescription only. Ella blocks the hormones your body needs to conceive. It's completely effective for five days after unprotected sex.
Plan B/Next Choice
Plan B/Next Choice works like birth control pills, but at a much higher dose. It works up to five days after unprotected sex, but the sooner you take it, the better it'll work.
Plan B/Next Choice is a two-pill formula where you take one right away and the second within 12 hours. The newer version, called Plan B-One Step, is a bit more expensive (but it's just one pill).
Intrauterine Device (IUD)
The IUD is the most effective emergency contraception there is. At Planned Parenthood, we'll insert it within five days of the unprotected sex and lower your chance of pregnancy by 99.9%.
