This year, we are coping with the dual public health crises of racism and COVID-19. And now, with the unexpected passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the future of the Supreme Court is in danger, making this election more critical than ever.
Today, on National Voter Registration Day, we are here to remind you that your voice and your vote matter.
To live in a true democracy where all voices are heard and represented, all people must exercise their right to vote. Your elected federal and state officials influence your everyday life and the issues that hit closest to home.
As a country, we are falling short on exercising our right to vote — which has serious consequences for our democracy. In the 2016 presidential election, nearly 92 million eligible Americans did not go to the polls; in the 2014 midterm elections, an estimated 143 million eligible Americans did not vote. We can’t let this happen again.
Voting is not just a political act; it’s a personal one, too. It is your opportunity to be heard, keep elected officials accountable for their decisions, and have a say in important issues that affect your community. There are many issues affected by this year’s election: the environment, education, policing, racial justice, immigration, health care access, and more. You can use your vote and your voice to lift up the issues that matter to you and your community.
In order to stay safe during the pandemic and exercise your right to vote, sign up to vote by mail.
To avoid any potential issues, we recommend signing up to vote by mail today. The sooner you sign up, the better!
In Illinois, you must be registered to vote at your current address by Election Day in order to vote in this year’s election on November 3rd and you have to sign and submit your registration form in order to vote.
If you’re already registered, double check your registration by visiting the Illinois State Board of Elections Online Voter Registration Portal.
Please take a moment now to plan out how and when you will register and vote. This election is critically important and your voice is needed in this election.
