In honor of National Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month, Planned Parenthood and the Center for Latino Adolescent & Family Health polled Latino parents’ on attitudes toward teen pregnancy. The findings were eye-opening.
One-third of survey respondents agreed that Latino teens have less access to birth control than most Americans, and 90% support sex education in schools. At Planned Parenthood, we work every day to reduce teen pregnancy by providing access to a wide range of education programs and birth control options, both in our health centers and in the community.
Parents should be the primary sexual health educators in a teen’s life. With this in mind, we’ve recently partnered with KidsInTheHouse.com. The site features videos from a variety of experts, including Planned Parenthood Los Angeles’ own health education staff discussing reproductive health. The videos are a great tool for parents who want support talking with their teen about pregnancy, STDs and healthy relationships.
With support from parents and educators, we can help teens think carefully about pregnancy and sexual health.
