Ever since PPMM became one of the first providers in the region to immediately adopt social distancing protocols in the early days of COVID-19, Health Services Specialist (HSS) Jessica C has been conducting patient visits over the phone from one of our Sacramento health centers.
She has become accustomed to the effusive expressions of gratitude that PPMM is open and delivering health care, even when many people don’t feel safe leaving their homes. But she was especially moved by the response of a patient who needed gender affirming care and called in from hundreds of miles away.
“This patient needed to get started on hormone therapy and had been referred to us,” Jessica said. “They were so excited to know that we had the service and that we could start this right away.
"This person may have not had the means to receive the therapy where they were. Knowing that we could do this was a giant relief. It made me feel really good that, at this stressful time, I could be there for someone who thought there would be no help. It felt amazing to be able to say, when everyone’s anxiety is so high, ‘Yes, we can absolutely help you.’”
