Massachusetts Women’s Political Caucus Honors Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts President/CEO at 25th Annual Tribute to Abigail Adams
For Immediate Release: Jan. 30, 2014
BOSTON— Dianne Luby, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts (PPLM), was honored by the Massachusetts Women’s Political Caucus at their Annual Tribute to Abigail Adams last night at the Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel.
The Abigail Adams award ceremony honors women who have worked in their professional and personal lives to achieve parity for women across all realms.
During her thirteen years of leadership at PPLM, Luby has been a pioneer in the field of health care delivery and advocacy, spearheading a major public awareness initiative designed to change the public conversations around sexual health.
At the Abigail Adams award ceremony, Luby acknowledged the importance of women’s active role in the political process in order to achieve equality at all levels.
“I am grateful to the Massachusetts Women’s Political Caucus for honoring me with this award,” said Luby. “The mission of the Massachusetts Women’s Political Caucus – to maximize the role of women in the political process, and bring greater social, political and economic parity to women – is close to my heart and aligns with the mission of Planned Parenthood.”
Luby went on to point out that the issue of parity and the acknowledgement that women’s issues are economic issues was noticeably absent from last week’s presidential debate. “Clearly, the Massachusetts Women’s Political Caucus and all of us advocates still have plenty of work to do.”
Luby has led PPLM in a number of strategic initiatives to expand access to health care in Massachusetts, particularly for underserved communities, and to introduce a new approach to comprehensive sexuality education which has defined PPLM as a state and national leader on the critical issues of sexual health.
Under Luby’s leadership, some of PPLM’s most notable accomplishments include the opening of five new health centers in Springfield, Fitchburg, Marlborough, Milford, and Somerville and a new, eco-friendly facility in Worcester; the development of a comprehensive sexuality education curriculum for middle schools and high schools that is now in 132 schools and reaching over 30,000 students; and full implementation of Electronic Health Records at all seven PPLM health centers.
The Massachusetts Women’s Political Caucus honored Ms. Luby alongside State Auditor Suzanne Bump, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Rosalin Acosta, Regional Wealth Leader at TD Bank, Deborah C. Enos, President and CEO of Neighborhood Health Plan, Jennifer Nassour, Former Chairwomen of the Massachusetts Republican Party, and as the recipient of the Dolores L. Mitchell Lifetime Achievement Award, Marge Schiller, founding president of the Massachusetts Women’s Political Caucus.
