Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts Celebrates Pride 2013 by Urging LGBTQ Community Members to Protect Their Sexual Health
For Immediate Release: Jan. 30, 2014
BOSTON— June is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Pride Month, an annual month-long observance of LGBT history, community, and activism, celebrated with marches, parties, and other events across the country. Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts (PPLM) is joining the celebration.
“Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts believes all people deserve high-quality, affordable health care, no matter who they are, who they love, or where they live,” said Marty Walz, President and Chief Executive Officer of PPLM. “When people are truly cared for, their lives, their families, and their communities are healthier. We are proud to serve the LGBTQ community throughout Massachusetts.”
This past Saturday, thirty people marched with Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts in the Boston Pride Parade. PPLM’s civic and political arm, the Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund of Massachusetts, participated in the Boston Pride Festival at City Hall Plaza at the same time. PPLM is also participating in Pride Month by educating patients and supporters through digital media.
“At Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts, we understand that LGBTQ people have unique health care needs and face particular challenges in obtaining and benefiting from sexual health services,” said Walz. “It’s important to remember that routine visits with a health care provider help prevent illness and find problems that may need treatment. Staff members at local Planned Parenthood health centers provide everyone with the sexual and reproductive health care they need.”
Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts is the state’s leading sexual and reproductive health care provider and advocate, providing nearly 50,000 patient visits annually at health centers in Boston, Fitchburg, Marlborough, Milford, Somerville, Springfield, and Worcester. PPLM’s Sexual Health Counseling and Referral Hotline provides accurate information, confidential counseling, and referrals to more than 20,000 callers each year.
