Planned Parenthood Partners with Lena Dunham at Book Tour Stop in Boston
Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts to Join Lena Tonight at Wilbur Theatre
BOSTON — As Lena Dunham’s invited guest on her Not That Kind of Girl book tour, Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts (PPLM) will join Lena at her event tonight at The Wilbur Theatre to share information about Planned Parenthood’s health care services, education programs, advocacy campaigns, and volunteer opportunities.
“Planned Parenthood is delighted to be Lena Dunham’s invited guest on the Not That Kind of Girl book tour,” said Marty Walz, President and CEO of PPLM. “Lena is an unwavering supporter of reproductive health and rights, as well as a trailblazing storyteller who inspires and empowers her generation. We’re excited Lena is coming to Boston to promote her new book and discuss the importance of women’s access to basic health care, and we can’t wait to join her.”
Lena has been a strong supporter of women’s health for years. She regularly tweets and speaks publicly about her support for Planned Parenthood, and last year, Lena accepted a Planned Parenthood Maggie Award for Media Excellence for her realistic and honest portrayal of the complex issues facing young women today on her TV show, Girls.
“I’m thrilled that Planned Parenthood is my guest on my book tour,” Lena Dunham said. “Planned Parenthood is an organization close to my heart because it protects the health and rights of women, and I’m so grateful to Planned Parenthood for everything they do for women and young people every day. The men and women who work at Planned Parenthood centers across America are heroes to me, and I truly believe they are doing some of the most vital and important work in our country right now.
“I can’t think of a more important time to show my support for women’s health,” she continued. “With the recent Supreme Court decision in the Hobby Lobby case, it’s critical that we all do everything we can to ensure that women have access to the full range of reproductive and sexual health care without their bosses or politicians or judges getting in the way. Planned Parenthood will have a presence on my tour so that people can learn about their services and the invaluable information they provide, and become involved as advocates and volunteers.”
